There are artists who create for expression, and there are artists who create because something inside them insists on being seen. For Manila-based visual artist Raisa Que-Siy, art has always quietly lived within her, waiting for the right moment to take shape.

A Life Shaped by Creativity, Courage, and Second Chances
Raisa describes herself as “a self-taught visual artist,” but her story reveals someone who has always possessed an instinctive creative rhythm. She studied Multimedia Arts at the De La Salle–College of Saint Benilde, refining her talents, but her artistic journey took a winding path. After graduating, life called her into different ventures such as entrepreneurial pursuits that demanded her time, energy, and imagination. Painting took a backseat.

Creativity in the Quiet Moments of Home
It wasn’t until the stillness of the pandemic that she picked up a brush again.
What began as a return to a familiar outlet soon became something deeper. “I prayed, asking God for a sign,” she says. “When I sold my first artwork and started exhibiting in galleries, I knew this was more than a hobby.” With each piece, she rediscovered a forgotten part of herself, one that felt both new and long overdue.

Discovering Herself Through the Brush
Today, under the name “ArtsyRaii,” Raisa creates abstract geometric works filled with emotion and motion. They come in different shapes and paths intersecting, resembling people moving in different directions. To some, her paintings appear chaotic. Someone once told her it looked like “people going in different directions with no destination.” But for Raisa, the movement is intentional. “For me, it represents the journey of life, how each path is unique,” she explains. “My work often reflects choices, and the unpredictability of where we end up.”

The themes she paints—perseverance, purpose, movement—are rooted in her own lived experience. She credits much of her perspective to her father, who encouraged her to take risks and trust her talent. “His words stayed with me: ‘When you’re doing something, give it your best. It’s okay to fail; what’s not okay is never trying.”
And perhaps that belief is what allows Raisa to balance the many roles she plays today: artist, wife, and mother.

Trusting the Instinct: The Artist’s Quiet Compass
When she’s not in her studio, she finds her creativity in the gentlest parts of life. “I recharge by spending time with my family,” she says. Simple moments such as playing with her son, watching Netflix, or listening to jazz or classical music while she plays the piano keep her inspired. “Those quiet, personal routines really help refuel me.”
Her process mirrors her personality — intuitive, grounded, and deeply personal. “I go with my gut,” she says when asked how she knows a piece is done. Sometimes she steps away, returning the next day with fresh eyes. Other times, she trusts the quiet knowing that comes with experience: if it feels right, it’s finished.

A Mantra Rooted in Courage and Forward Motion
Painting, for her, has become a mirror. “It’s taught me that I’m more patient and creative than I thought,” she reflects. “Sometimes I look at a finished piece and wonder how I even made it, and it just flows within.”
And like many artists, Raisa holds close a guiding belief that anchors her in moments of doubt:
“You are the captain of your ship. Do what you have to do now so your future self won’t regret it.”

Beyond the Canvas: The Woman Behind the Work
Still, beyond the canvas, when the paint jars are closed and the studio quiets, Raisa is something more tender, more grounded. “I’m a mom, a wife,” she says simply. “A woman who finds meaning in little things. Even when I’m not creating on canvas, I’m always creating a life.”
In a world that often demands perfection, Raisa paints something else entirely: the courage to try, the beauty of movement, and the quiet strength of choosing to begin again.
