Brace yourself, Mars! The Philippines is ready to invade you.
As of this writing, a total of 1,537,238 Filipino names are already submitted to fly aboard next Mars rover.
NASA is, once again, inviting the public to send their names to the Red Planet. According to the independent agency of the United States Federal Government responsible for the civilian space program, as well as aeronautics and space research, names submitted will be reviewed and approved by the agency before they are stenciled on chips, which will be placed aboard a spacecraft cruising to Mars.
Although the boarding pass states that the next departure is scheduled for July 2026, Filipinos are quick to take reservations and submit their names.
Leading the signups, we wonder why we, of all people, wish to leave Earth, but it looks like netizens also ask the same thing!
Ahead are hilarious tweets we couldn’t help but agree on:
With everything that is happening in the world—in our country, no need to go far—we’re not surprised with the number. We can’t blame how desperate Filipinos want to escape for a while, even if it means launching their names to the universe.
