Met Gala 2018: Religion On The Red Carpet

Year after year, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York city hosts the much-anticipated Met Gala on the first Monday of May. The event’s red carpet is regarded as the “Oscars” of the fashion industry, with a legion of celebrities donning extravagant ensembles in line with the year’s theme. It’s no different this year, as today’s biggest stars attended the opening of the Met’s 2018 exhibition, “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.”

Even though the Met’s Costume Institute has touched on avant-garde themes in previous years, this night’s red carpet hasn’t seen this many outrageous outfits before. A few of them include Rihanna’s embellished Papal look, Katy Perry’s six-foot angel wings, Sarah Jessica Parker’s altar headpiece, and Madonna who harkened back to her controversial “Like A Prayer” days. Today’s A-list celebrities showed off their own takes on how Catholic style should be worn on the red carpet, and they were nothing short of amazing. Here are thirteen of the craziest and most artistic looks.
