All colors, no genres. This is the vision of COLORS Studios, a digital music platform that knows no boundaries—whether it be genre, language, gender, or geography. It has made a name for itself by featuring artists from all over the globe, making them perform their most recent and most iconic songs live. They have featured over 200 artists on their YouTube channel and website, producing content with the now-iconic minimalist and monochromatic studio sets.
For each featured artist, a unique color is painted across the walls of the studio, emphasizing that no two artists are ever truly alike. The music studio celebrates diversity in music and people, and each one’s originality in style. It’s a great platform to discover upcoming artists, and it makes its subscribers appreciate the underrated and off-the-radar varieties of music before they become the biggest hits of tomorrow.
While they have yet to record with a Filipino musician, they have featured some of the Korean artists we love. Ticked off our long list of favorite Korean acts are DEAN, Colde, and, just recently, DPR Live. It seems that the Berlin-based studio is focused on bringing Seoul’s R&B and Hiphop scene into the limelight—and we can’t blame them, the Korean genres’ popularity is indeed rising to the global scale.
DPR Live wore a striking fuchsia sweater against an equally striking shade of aqua as his backdrop. In his live studio performance, the singer and rapper asks his listeners to text him when we’re free. And then he sings that he’ll make time for us. With his single “Text Me” from the album titled “Her,” DPR LIVE debuted his rapping and singing skills internationally. It was a chance to make his fans swoon over him again and again. He smiles in between his teasing lyrics, does soulful adlibs, which makes it quite hard not to be converted into an avid listener. His COLORS video is now close to reaching a million views.
The first Korean singer to ever be featured was DEAN. It was in 2017, and he sang his then newly released song titled “Love.” He performed it without the vocals of the artist he collaborated with: Syd from The Internet. But even if he was alone in that studio, DEAN didn’t disappoint with his good looks, and incredibly beautiful, sexy vocals. He also gave us a glimpse of his dancing skills. There are now over 13 million views for this video. The all-English track also blessed DEAN with a new title: “The king of consent.” Thanks to these lyrics which go: “I need your blessin’, baby, I’ll f*ck you if you let me, baby.”
Taking a break from the duo Offonoff, singer, songwriter, producer Colde has gone solo and became the second Korean artist to perform in the COLORS studio. It took one year before another Korean name and face made a comeback on the COLORS screen. Colde sang his new song “Shhh” which is also a play on the Korean word “poem.” Fans were quick to note that he sang this song while holding a sharp pencil to show his process of writing a poem. His song’s stanzas appeared to be like verses of a poem, and its soft melody and modest grooves easily captivate its listeners. And we’re sure it did—his video has gotten more than one million views.
DEAN, Colde and DPR LIVE—these talented Korean artists have truly invaded COLORSxSTUDIOS. But why stop there? In the future, we hope for more Korean artists and bands get to be featured—among them Crush, Suran, Zion.T, Hyukoh, Jooyoung, Hoody, Sik-K, Sam Kim, and even G.Soul (when he finishes his military duties).
