Why Sustainable Activewear Looks Good, and Feels Better

Fashion is constantly evolving, and many don’t often think much about clothing purchases. As long as they’re cute and affordable, we add-to-cart.

Today’s generation shops more consciously. Gone are the days when we simply purchased clothes that are stylish and trendy. Now, we look for high quality, as well as clothes that are ethically produced.

Many agree-- fashion should not cost us the Earth.

Turns out, people love the look of sustainability. Lessening the impact of environmental degradation means feeling good, not just looking good. And this also makes us more responsible shoppers as we are wearing clothes not just for ourselves but for future generations as well.

Data shows that:

· Annually, the clothing industry utilizes 93 billion cubic meters of water. This is enough to meet the consumption needs of five million people. (According to the United Nations, a single pair of jeans already takes 3, 781 liters of water to make!)

· The fashion industry is also in charge of 10 % of annual global carbon emissions, more than all international flights and maritime shipping combined. If this continues, the fashion industry’s greenhouse gas emissions will surge more than 50 % by 2030.

· Every year, half a million tons of plastic microfibers coming from washed fabrics pollute the ocean each year. Microfibers cannot be extracted from these bodies of water and can spread throughout the food chain.

Lucky for us, we spotted a brand that pays more attention to utilizing cutting edge technology to produce fashionable and sustainable activewear!

This May, Monki is set to release their first activewear collection: Feel Good Wear. The fabrics of this collection are made from 79% recycled polyester and 21% elastane - good news since polyester and nylon take over 200 years to decompose. Monki’s garments feature breathability, quick drying, wrinkle resistance, and a thicker weave for added support.

Their Feel Good Wear collection consists of active tops, singlets, and a pair of leggings. All pieces are available in five colors: neutral tones, pop colors, and single statement prints, with a wide range of sizing from XXS to XXL - making sure no one is left behind.

There’s more to love though, as aside from being made from biodegradable materials, the collection’s marketing is aimed at empowering girls to feel good in their own skin - campaigns that ought to be supported since they stand for something more valuable than fashion-- what one is naked.
