From NJ Sneakers to Boardroom Leadership: The Rise of Neil Paras

Some entrepreneurs are born with a clear roadmap. Others, like Neil Paras, discover their path one unexpected turn at a time. Today, he serves as  the COO of Imperial Nova Corporation, a family business as his major role among many other hats he wears. But long before he stepped into boardrooms and built a name in raw material chemical distribution, his journey began with  selling hand-painted sneakers

.

Where It All Began

Neil didn’t set out to become a businessman. In fact, he started college in a pre-law course. That changed the moment he launched NJ Sneaks, a one-of-a-kind hand-painted sneaker brand.

“That’s really where everything started,” he shares. “I shifted my course right away to Entrepreneurship so I can learn the ropes of managing a business.”

Soon after, he joined the family business and later launched his first restaurant alongside his partners, Big Bad Wolf. That experience—solidified his passion for building businesses.

Growing Pains, Greater Lessons

Success didn’t come without stumbles.

“I started young, and I really thought I already knew everything,” he admits with honesty. “It was hard for me to listen, and success got into my head. But I learned from my mistakes.”

Those lessons, he says, are what shaped him into the leader he strives to be today.

“Anyone can be a boss, but leading by example is far more challenging”.

Now he prioritizes humility, openness, and continuous learning. These values have guided him in managing multiple companies in the chemical trading and being a partner in the restaurant and bar scene.

Passions Beyond the Office

For Neil, inspiration doesn’t come from the grind alone. It comes from the people and moments that ground him.

“My family and close friends inspire me the most. I really believe in the power of good energy.”

Whether it’s golf, travel, or time spent with loved ones, each plays a role in keeping him grounded, curious, and inspired. “It gives me great memories while exposing me to new concepts and ideas.”

The Creative Joy of the Food & Nightlife Scene

Neil also enjoys the creative energy behind the bar and restaurant scene. He currently is a partner in the following establishments, including: The Palace- Yes Pls, Xylo, Clubhouse, Revel and the recently launched Medusa Supper Club; Gordon Ramsay in Manila and Cebu; 12 Monkeys; Vito’s BBQ BGC and Fauna Mixology Bar,

“What I really enjoy is the brainstorming process, discussing new concepts, identifying trends, learning from mentors and friends while figuring out what will work in the Philippines.”

Principles That Anchor Him

Among all the values he carries, one stands out:

“Accountability. Whenever I’m wrong, I admit it. I never want others to suffer for my mistakes.”

It’s a trait he brings into business, friendships, marriage, and fatherhood. He considers it as an anchor that helps him stay centered no matter how busy life gets.

Finding Balance in a Full Life

Despite his many responsibilities, Neil is clear about one thing:

“My priority will always be my family, my wife and daughter, parents and siblings.”

He has learned to manage his time better, go home earlier, play golf at least once a week, and spend quality moments with the people who keep him grounded.

Looking Ahead

Neil has ambitions for growth, but also a sense of contentment.

“You always need to find contentment in life—and I’m fortunate to have found mine.”
