DIY 101: How to Make Your Room Instagram-Worthy

If there are some things you want to change in your lifestyle, try to begin with your bedroom. After all, it’s where you get your rest at the end of the day, as well as the first view you wake up to. After a long, stressful day at work (not to mention the hassle with commuting), we’d all just want to get some good rest. However, if your room stresses you out more than relaxes it you, some action needs to be done. I’m pretty sure we all have our personal #bedroomgoals that we are trying to achieve, but perhaps we just don’t know where to start.

Here are 5 tips to easily get that organized and pretty (read: Instagram-worthy) room you’ve always wanted to have:

1. Declutter your things.

It’s time to throw out the old receipts on your desk and clear out the garbage from your trash bin. The most probable reason you don’t think your room is “Instagram-worthy” is because of all the mess. Start to declutter your things and organize all your items. Start putting all your cords in your drawer, keep away all the important documents you have, put back your books in your bookshelf, and throw away all the food wrappers you have. Don’t just simply stash all the mess inside a cabinet because that will just haunt you again. Genuinely clean out and organize your room and working area and it will do wonders. Not only will it allow you to take better photos, but your mood will also improve because your own personal space is now much more organized and pleasing to look at.

2. Let a lot of natural light in.

Good photos are not made just by good lighting alone, but it certainly does help a lot! If you often take photos (or selfies!) in the dark, chances are, your photos might turn out to be a bit grainy after you try to adjust the brightness in various photo editing apps. Natural light is surely better than artificial lighting. Letting a lot of natural light in your bedroom will make your place feel more spacious and vibrant. This will allow the colors to pop and also give you more options in post-processing your photo afterward. By letting more natural light inside your bedroom, you’ll be able to achieve sharp photos you’ve envied on Instagram. This is a relatively easy step to make and won’t cost you anything.

3. Have one or two indoor plants.

If you feel like your room is lifeless and needs a dash of color, you can try getting indoor plants. Greenery will definitely improve the overall look of your room. They are small and compact so they’re easy to bring into your room setup. You can put them by the windowsill, on your table, or by the door. The location depends on the plant’s light requirements. Keep in mind that although you are using them decoratively, they are still alive. You should still take care of your plants, otherwise, they might die.

4. Get fairy lights for your room.

String lights or fairy lights will definitely up your Instagram game. There are lots of string lights available out there that aren’t as Christmas-y as you’re picturing. You can have lots of uses for it. You can put it around your bed, which will make your sleeping space more interesting. You can also put it up around the walls in your room and try the bokeh effect sometime. You can wrap it around the photos in your bedroom, wrap it around items you want to take photos of, or even use it as decoration for your selfies. Just be careful in using it and make sure to avoid any possible accidents.

5. Decorate with bedroom art.

You can hang up movie posters, personal paintings, photos, or even art you bought online from an artist. The things you choose to hang up on your wall will really show your personality and the real you. You can choose posters that remind you of your advocacy, art that reflects who you are, or images that inspire you. Any of these will make your room more alive and unique.

These quick tips don’t necessarily have to be expensive. You can make these small changes easily and have big effects on your overall disposition as well as with the photos you upload on Instagram (or any other social media platforms, for that matter). Whatever you choose to do or put up, don’t solely focus on how the photo will turn out. Focus also on what you like and what’s going to make you happy to see in the morning.
