As the pandemic is causing a major downturn in various businesses, young businessman Aldrin Derrick Chua maintains a bullish outlook about their company’s operation and product portfolio. Despite the strifes caused by the pandemic, they have managed to rise above, continued to innovate, and actively engaged in nation-building efforts.

During this pandemic, Techglobal has also introduced a new piping innovation — the Vesbo Biocote Anti-microbial PPR Pipes, the first and only anti-viral and anti-bacterial pipe in the country. “It is very important in any hot and cold piping system especially in interconnected ones found in houses and condominiums,” explains Chua. “It prevents transmission of diseases and maintains high water potability.” It has become the preferred piping option of the medical industry, and was used in St. Luke’s Medical Center and Cardinal Santos Medical Center, to name a few.

“Back in 2020, we were able to put to good use our Vesbo Biocote Pipes through the wonderful initiative of Architect William Ti, Jr. This initiative was called the Emergency Quarantine Facility (EQF) Initiative which was able to help decongest the hospitals at the start of the height of Covid-19 back then. This EQF really helped our nation at its most crucial and we were more than willing to support this by donating waterline pipes that can be use due to its medical features of being anti-viral and anti-bacterial.” shares Aldrin Derrick Chua, Techglobal Director for Marketing and Luftonic Philippines President. “We also helped hospitals by donating pipes as part of the materials they used for COVID- 19 treatment. And we supported several LGUs with face shields and our medical-grade air purifier. We have implemented all of these initiatives to help our country get back to its feet faster.”

Growing the family business

Being the eldest among the brood in the family, Chua was called upon to help in their family business. ”I started from the ground up. I started as a regular salesperson,” he relates.

“I would go to architects and contractors to get the feel of the market. I had to show everyone as well that not only am I competent at my job but also can excel at it. Eventually after a couple of months, I became the Director for Marketing based on performance and merit,” he shares with pride.

Since working in the company, he has maintained strategic partnerships, foremost with the United Suppliers of the Philippines. “We have been a member of that ever since it was founded. Currently, I am the Treasurer of the group”. “The group’s advocacy aligns with ours which is upgrading the building materials industry of the country so that we can be at par with more developed nations.”

Chua also adds that they are heavy in supporting the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP), Philippine Society of Plumbing Engineers (PSPE), Philippine Society of Sanitary Engineers (PSSE), and Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers (PSME).

“We are one of the few pipe companies working in collaboration with them – sharing the latest in piping innovations to upgrade outdated piping system design,” he remarks.

Chua says that they pioneered PPR back in 1995 to replace Galvanized Iron (GI) pipes. “It provided tremendous benefits to every Filipino home owner. No leaks, no water contamination from scaling, no rust,” he stresses.  “These are the improvements we have been doing for the longest time for piping systems. We pioneered under piping innovations such as HDPE pipes to replace CI and PVC pipes, multi-layer PPR pipes for outdoor piping, and anti-microbial pipes to combat viruses and bacteria.”

Work-life balance

Both at work and at play, Chua stays to be as productive as possible. “Quite frankly, I believe 24 hours a day is too short,” he says. “I usually start my day in the office having a quick round of updates from my staff and sales team. In the afternoon, I would meet partner clients. After which, I squeeze in a golf driving session or physical exercises depending on which day of the week. At night would be reserved for MBA readings then Netflix to cap off my day.”

Making a difference

“It’s the fragility of human lives,” he says of his biggest realization when the pandemic hit us in 2020 and at present.  “This gives us more reason to help. I believe all of us should play a meaningful role in our country and create value to the benefit of our countrymen.” Aldrin Derrick Chua stresses the importance of working hard not just to sustain but ultimately to help lift the lives of others too. “A rising tide lifts all boats,” he concludes, full of hope and optimism in mind and heart.
