ANN AND BILLIE DUMALIANG
Ann and Billie Dumaliang are not just passionate advocates for conservation—they are steadfast warriors in the fight to protect the Masungi Georeserve and its surrounding environment.
As the managing trustee and advocacy director of the award-winning Masungi Georeserve, Ann and Billie oversee a pioneering conservation and sustainable tourism initiative. Located just east of Manila, Masungi Georeserve safeguards 60-million-year-old limestone formations and hundreds of plant and animal species, many of which are threatened. Since its inception in the 2000s, the project has successfully reforested 3,000 hectares of degraded land and provides clean water to neighboring communities. This is achieved by employing individuals who once exploited the land, now working instead as stewards of its preservation.
Their holistic approach to environmental protection goes beyond the physical landscape, engaging local communities, promoting education, and fostering grassroots involvement in conservation. Together, Ann and Billie are leading efforts to restore 2,700 hectares of land while tackling challenges such as land-grabbing and harmful developments.
Despite facing attacks, misinformation, and corporate pressures, they remain unwavering in their mission. Armed with thorough research, legal strategies, and educational outreach, Ann and Billie are focused not only on preserving the beauty of the landscape but on creating a future where nature and humanity coexist in harmony. For them, every action is a step closer to ensuring a sustainable future for both the Earth and its people.
