Luke Perry, whose iconic roles include Dylan Mckay (“Beverly Hills, 90210) and Fred Andrews (“Riverdale”), died early Monday morning after suffering a “massive stroke” last week. The actor was 52.

The “Riverdale” star was taken to a hospital in Burbank, California, last week after he experienced a stroke at his home in Los Angeles.

“He was surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiancé Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, step-father Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder, and other close family and friends,” Perry’s representative said in a statement.

“The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning. No further details will be released at this time,” the statement continued.

Following Perry’s death, “Riverdale” has shut down its production. Perry had been with the show since it started, where he played Fred Andrews, the father of lead character Archie Andrews. The fate of his character in the show remains uncertain.

“We are deeply saddened to learn today about the passing of Luke Perry. A beloved member of the Riverdale, Warner Bros. and CW family,” the show’s executive producers Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Jon Goldwater said in a joint statement.

Perry had also been working on Quentin Taratino’s new film “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.”
