Inspiration behind Medley

Traveling is like food for the soul. It feeds our minds with different experiences packed with knowledge, perspective, and rich stories. For restaurateur, David Tweg, migrating from one place to another allowed him to be more observant of the world around him; thus giving birth to his fast and casual restaurant in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), Medley.

David’s backstory

“Moving around and engaging in other cultures has always been a big part of my life,”

Born in Israel to an Israeli father and a British mother, David Tweg has been constantly migrating since he was only 2 years old. He moved to the United Kingdom together with his family to live there until he turned 9 years old, and then stayed in Spain for 2 years before returning to the U.K. where he settled for a while before finding his way to the Philippines. This created a profound influence in his life as he acquired the skill of seeking for opportunities around him.

“Growing up around the restaurant business, with both my parents owning and managing several places throughout my childhood, I always had a passion for food and cooking, although I never considered it as a career for myself.

Despite earning a degree and working in the IT industry as a network engineer, David knew that it was not something he wanted to pursue for the rest of his life. In 2016, he flew to the Philippines and spent some time in El Nido, which he calls, “the most beautiful place” he had seen. One night in El Nido, David was enjoying himself a few beers at one of the local pubs. David, as a natural observer, noticed that there weren’t any food establishments open past 10pm anywhere despite the nightlife being active.

The next day, he walked down the same street and at the bar across, he found a tiny 20sqm space for lease. After a few months, David decided to open a grab and go Falafel shop serving wraps, kebabs, and salads in the area 24/7. Because it was a great hit and he believed he opened at the right time on the peak season of December, David took the plunge, left his job, and moved to El Nido to spend more time in his business.

Creation of Medley

After flying back and forth El Nido and Manila in 2017, David noticed that Mediterranean cuisine was not so mainstream in the Metro. In addition, as an office-based employee, he was frustrated that there were not enough options for delicious and healthy snacks downtown.

Because of this, he started to conceptualize Medley for those who are craving for something healthy, flavourful, and quick to eat.

In January 2019, they opened Medley in Bonifacio Global City (BGC). Medley’s is a Mediterranean café with the aim to unite healthy and flavourful by using fresh ingredients to create modern and delicious on-the-go meals. Inspired by his family’s hearty recipes, Medley serves delicious salads, bowls, wraps, and pizza made with good quality ingredients for an affordable price. It was a huge hit that they already had plans of expansion after the first six months. However, it was put on hold due in early 2020 because of the global pandemic.

This doesn’t stop David and his team from continuously improving and redefining their menu. If you are craving for healthy and delicious food, do check out Medley in BGC or order online via www.medley.ph.
