For their 20th anniversary, Atlantis Theatrical Entertainment Group (ATEG) presents its newest division that aims to stage brilliant and appealing theatrical productions for Filipino children, young adults, and families—the Atlantis Imaginarium Young Theatre. The company is staging “Madagascar: A Musical Adventure” as their maiden production.

The musical is based on the hit animated film from Dreamworks, with original music and lyrics by George Noriega and Joel Someillan and book by Kevin Del Aguila. It follows the story of four animal friends from New York’s Central Park Zoo, namely: Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Gloria the Hippo, and Melman the Giraffe. The zoosters begin their strange journey when Marty escapes from the zoo and they unexpectedly end up in Madagascar.

Leading the cast is Markus Mann who plays Alex the Lion. You might have seen him recently in ATEG’s most recent production, “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical” as part of The Drifters. Playing his best friend Marty the Zebra is Nel Gomez, who was also in “Beautiful” and “Angels in America: Millennium Approaches.”

Sarah Facuri (“Kinky Boots” and “Waitress”), who is also the Associate Director of the production, plays Gloria the Hippo. Completing the zoosters is Altair Alonso as Melman the Giraffe, who was last seen in “Saturday Night Fever” and “Jersey Boys.”

Madagascar wouldn’t be complete without its King Julien, to played by George Schulze (“Waitress” and “Beautiful.”) They also have Mica Fajardo, Jep Go, Franco Ramos, and Ber Reyes to complete this powerful and very talented cast.

The Asian premiere of “Madagascar: A Musical Adventure” is directed by Steven Conde with Cecile Martinez as choreographer, Farley Asuncion as musical director, Lawyn Cruz for set design, Pocholo Nario for lighting design, Glendfford Malimban for sound design, GA Fallarme for projection design, Jay Lorence Cunanan for costume design, Jaydee Jasa for hair and make-up design, Arman Ferrer as vocal coach, and Kayla Teodoro and Marvin Choa (from Puppet Theater Manila) for puppet design.

Catch “Madagascar: A Musical Adventure” at the Maybank Performing Arts Theatre at Bonifacio Global City, Taguig starting on August 2. Bring your friends and family; don’t miss the chance to “move it, move it” and watch this crack-a-lackin’ musical about family and friendship!
